In 1982 Larry Hodge was introduced to Orman Pratt, a concert and artist for Steinway and Sons, who was looking for apprentice at the time. Serving in the United States Marine Corp at the time, as a helicopter mechanic, Larry was debating his future. After a lot of deliberation, in June 1983, Larry began his apprenticeship for tuning pianos. In March 1985 Larry was hired by Fairfax County Public Schools to manage, maintain, and tune their pianos in the school district. Larry managed over 800 pianos within the county. Larry supported and worked for Fairfax until 1992. In 1992, Larry started Hodge Piano to service and support the Northern Virginia Area.
In 1994, Larry was hired as the primary contractor for Fairfax County Public School to continue to maintain and sustain their pianos within the county.
By 1997, Larry’s quality and reputation preceded him and was asked by Prince William County school system to manage and contract for their pianos.
Finally, in 1999, Arlington County Schools called and Larry began tuning for Arlington County Schools as well, while continuing to build private clientele base.
After supporting numerous counties Larry continued to grow and build his business in an around the Northern Virginia Area. His extensive experience with County and Local Governments as their go to person for tuning, has created an excellent reputation within the community for Hodge Piano. Larry continues to tune and pursue his passion for music through his craft.

“I have owned my current piano for 30 years, and in that whole time I honestly cannot recall anyone other than Larry Hodge performing any tuning, repair, or enhancement work.
Larry came well recommended from my sister-in-law, then living in Reston, VA, and he has been to my successive residences in DC, Arlington, Falls Church, and back in Arlington. When I’m happy with the results from a person I hire to do technical work, I can’t be persuaded to change to another. After every visit, my piano sings with the confidence of musician who’s at home in front of an audience. Thanks to Larry’s attention to voicing and his maintaining the volume-softening device on my brand of instrument, I can practice in my residential apartment without disturbing neighbors. I’ve often wondered if I should switch to an electronic keyboard and use headphones, but that hasn’t been necessary. Taking into account all tuning and repair work, plus the original purchase price of my previously owned piano, the cost of ownership has been about $1.18 per day. The ability to make music, practice it, compose it, and most important, study its theoretical points (like melody, harmony, and period style) for such a reasonable cost makes me feel quite fortunate.
Larry has been a welcome visitor to my home for many years, and I hope he will continue to be available for many more. Fellow music lovers should have no hesitation in choosing him as a tuner and piano technician.”

“Larry Hodge has been my piano tuner and technician for 26 years. Over the years I have received excellent, prompt and courteous service. His tuning fee is competitive with other comparable quality area tuners. In addition, I have used Larry for piano repairs, such as string replacement and voicing. I have always received prompt and quality repairs. Larry has always been my “go to” piano tuner. I will continue to use and recommend him to all of my piano students and piano teacher friends.”

“Larry Hodge has been tuning for me since about 1994. He also tunes my parent’s piano and our church’s piano. Larry is always quick to respond to requests for tunings, and he calls when it is time to schedule a tuning. Larry does a great job keeping our instruments in good tune and in good working condition. I am a Centreville piano teacher, and I regularly refer my students to Larry when asked for a recommendation. I highly recommend letting him take care of your piano, too!”
Larry Hodge has been tuning our piano for many years. He is the only person I trust to do it right. It’s a special Mason & Hamlin upright that has been in our family for quite a long time. I never have to think about when to call him – he calls me every six months. He arrives on time, changes his shoes, does a thorough job and double checks his work when he’s done. His rates are competitive. Very professional. Highly recommend.
